After the layer of gravel, comes a layer of sand. Keep in mind, all of this dirt had to be wheelbarrowed from the front driveway where the Home Depot guys dropped it off, to the backyard. Poor John!!! After the sand was level and ready came the fun part, or so we thought. Place the pavers. Actually this may have been fun if I didn't have to make at least fifty trips from the front yard to the backyard with loads of brick. Surprisingly our kids were little angels throughout the process and James was very accomodating. In fact, I was secretly hoping he wouldn't be so good, and I'd have to let John handle it all. Anyway, despite all the backbreaking work, we're pretty happy with the patio. Next week we tackle sprinklers. There's no way they can be as hard as this, right?
